Shawn Smith

Hey Everybody,

Since I have been a lazy bum about keeping in contact with you peoples. I thought I would give you a little update and my apologies on being a lazy bum and not keeping in contact with you peeps. I recently finished a hard semester at school (good old KCU) and am awaiting the challenging new one. Last semester I got involved in leading worship at a small church of 15-20 people that meet at two on sunday afternoons. It has been a good experience and has stretched me a bit. I also took up skateboarding and in the process broke my watch, wiped quite a few times and have developed my skills as a boarder; I am not very good yet, but it is fun. This endeavor is currently on hold due to the snowy weather. I also started a band with my brother Chad and we are called Double Trouble. We play a song you might remember; The chicken nuggets song. "Ohh Chicken Nuggets" I am currently sitting at home being bored and updating you peeps on my life so thats about it.

Your Brother in Christ,
Shawn Smith

Christmas stories

Hey all! I hope this Christmas season is going well for you and that you'll get to spend it with family. :-) I have a couple funny stories to share, and want you to post your stories too. So yesterday I was making those peanut butter/hershey kiss cookies with my mom, and I rolled the first dough ball and placed it on the cookie sheet and my mom started laughing at me. She said it was at least an inch and a half big and they're only supposed to be an inch. I mean really, does that make much of a difference?! They're cookies- they'll cook and all look about the same anyway. I made another one a few minutes later that made her laugh at me again because she said it looked like a fetus. But ya know what? They all looked like peanut butter balls to me! I thought it was funny that she found it so funny.

Today I put the ornaments on the tree that my family saved for me to do and just had to laugh. There was definitely a branch at the very bottom with two ornaments on it, making the branch hang really low. That's one of those things that your parents tell you not to do or come around and fix after you've done it, yet I think it was my 16 year old sister that did it. There was also a keychain hanging on the tree, but that one got blamed on my 4 year old cousin. I just think it's so funny that no one in my house is really young anymore, yet our tree still has ridiculous stuff going on (no ornaments hanging from the light string though, Jenna).

The pictures below are from when me and Steph went up to Michigan one weekend over the summer and just had to stop at this jerky outlet that was advertised on a huge billboard. It made for a fun detour. :-)
Merry Christmas everbody!!

boulder on!

This weekend, Jackson, Lisa and her sister Kelley, David, Jenna, Luke, James, Matt, Kelli and I began transforming part of the Quonset Hut into a brand-spanking new INDOOR BOULDERING CAVE!! We turned on the heat, cranked up the music, busted out the drills and saws and put in a framework for a new activity area that will let us and our guests climb ropes-free summer or winter, rain or shine.

We’ll be putting in several more work days this winter to get this boulder rolling, so if you’re a climbing fiend like me, or like construction, or just want to play loud music in a big steel half cylinder in the wintertime, give me a call and I’ll let you know the next time we’re working on it. You could even give some input on some features and styles as its going up. When its finished, who’s up for hanging out in there and sharpening up some moves?

A dream

Merry Christmas Everybody!

I wanted to tell y'all about a dream I had recently. I dreamt that somehow we know who's signed up for camp, and on the list were something like 4 campers so far- One of 'em signed up for 8 weeks! Of course, the 8 weeks kid wasn't all that surprising in the dream, and even afterward for awhile I thought it was true...

Here in Michigan it's a little snowy, and a tad chilly (hovering in the teens right now, I think). I'm having Christmas dinner with the grandparents; I'm rooting for a roaring fire to cozy up to whilst playing cards.

Cherish it, brothers and sisters!
