Dood

As I was about to go to bed tonight, I decided to check the pvm website to see if perhaps the info for staff of summer 2005 was posted yet.

I realize someone in the office is probably going to let y'all know pretty soon, but let me do it out of my excitement--

2005 summer staff applications are available!!!

So aside from all that I'm wondering-
college friends- how is everyone's new semester (for those of you in college) going? Mine is alright; I start at noon on monday and wednesday and work begins at 8 tuesday, thursday, and friday, but that's basically the coolest and uncoolest of my college life at the moment. How about you, dear ones?
high school friends- ready for finals?
non-school-ed friends- like amber and matt and those other old people (but not lance, because he's in middle school)- how's the start of your new calendar year?

Being the only middle schooler on staff, I guess I'll answer first (take my word for it, it somehow makes sense). It's kind of weird ... winter is basically my "summer vacation". I tend to unravel a lot during the other three seasons, so lately I've been taking time to gather myself back in, taking inventory and really just being still. It's good stuff.

It's been particularly satisfying to see how much my connection with my students has grown this year. I'm becoming much more comfortable as a teacher, and it seems that they're learning to trust and delight in me. I love 'em!

Oh, and yeah ... assuming that my Returner's Application goes through ok, I'm planning to be back this summer!

My semester is off to an interesting but fun start. My roommates and I have a new, fourth roommate. Her name is So Hwa and she is from South Korea. And here is the interesting part- I only had an hour's notice of her arrival! Yes, supposedly housing does NOT have to inform you if they are adding someone to your room, and I wouldn't have even found out if they hadn't tried to deliver a fourth bed. I rejected it b/c we have the fourth bed, it's just disassembled, but the hall director called b/c she thought we needed it, and that's when I found out we'd have a new roommate. We didn't exactly have the extra space alloted for a new person, so I did the best to make room for her before her arrival and clean up as much as possible (oh, I also didn't know what day or time she'd arrive). Michelle is the one who's sharing a room with her and she didn't get here til today, so they'll be figuring out how to rearrange things. I think it's pretty cool though, and I was actually delighted to see that our new roommate is a foreign exchange student. We should have a lot to learn from eachother. I want to hear everyone else's fun new semester stories too! :-)

Yeah, the pink Plinko dress definitely raised some eyebrows, but I think the kilt, leisure suit, and football helmet pushed them over the edge.

What ... you got a problem with kilts?

i have no problem with kilts whatsoever. i had no problem with the pink dress either. you were very convincing. you should be hired again lance. matt did a little cross-dressing himself... remember mattilda?

the start to this year has been scrumptious!! i think i was playing a game of e-limb-ination ping pong, if i remember correctly. i'm in a new room, new house, and spent some quality time with some in and out of town friends. i've also started attending an english as a second language (esl) class and learned a little spanish along the way!

speaking of applications, i'm here in the office folding them right now. a couple more days until we hit the road to go meet some of our new 2005 family members (potential staff, that is). pray that God will send and prepare the souls that he wants to send us!! and let's start loving them before they come! (by the way, if any potential staff has already found your way to the staff lounge, introduce yourself! ask us questions!)

the snow has been falling all day out here and its gorgeos. maybe i'll bring in my camera tomorrow and put up a picture for everyone :)
